Back Pain

Acute or chronic back pain can have many causes:

Back-Pain

  • painful disc without prolapse
  • herniated disc (lumbar disc herniation, cervical disc herniation)
  • facet joint arthrosis / wear
  • narrowing of the spinal canal (lumbar spinal stenosis, cervical spinal stenosis)
  • instability / listhesis
  • osteoporosis / vertebral fracture
  • scar formation after inflammation
  • inflammation of discs and facet joints
  • blockade of the iliosacral joint

Diseases of the spine may cause back pain, pain in the legs and neurological deficits (dizziness, formication, decreased sensation).

Diagnostics back pain

For an effective treatment of back pain its source and cause have to be identified. Because of this, severaldiagnostic examinations are necessary by means of state-of-the-art techniques and devices at Beta Klinik:

  • neurological-orthopaedic examination
  • MRI – makes most accurate images of spine and spinal diseases possible (employing 1.5 tesla open MRI system)
  • CT (Computer tomography)
  • functional MRI during movement
  • electrophysiological and other functional tests
  • X-ray (shows pathological degenerations of bones)
  • blood samples (focussing on rheumatism, gout and other inflammatory processes)
  • discography and pressure test
  • test infiltration of facet joints, iliosacral joint and epidural space
  • myelography (during functional condition of standing upright)

Treatment of back pain:

Besides conservative treatments like physiotherapy, microtherapy is one of our treatment in case of back pain. Microtherapy is a minimally invasive treatment that can be done in local anaesthesia. CT- and X-ray-guided control enable us to work very precisely, which makes this measure almost riskless.

If necessary and medically indicated, we practice every spinal state-of-the-art surgery to cure back pain, for instance:

  • endoscopic spine surgery
  • endoscopic abrasion
  • percutaneous nucleotomy
  • microsurgery
  • decompression / microlaminectomy
  • spacer
  • disc prosthesis / ADR – Artificial disc replacement
  • neurostimulator / neuromodulation
  • stabilization / fusion surgery
  • vertebroplasty / kyphoplasty
